World and Zoom Join Forces to Combat Deepfake Impersonation

Date:

World co-creator Alex Blania has revealed a specialized product suite tailored to shield banks and financial firms from advanced deepfakes and AI-driven impersonation schemes.

The Growing Threat of Synthetic Media

A fresh suite of identity verification tools has been introduced by World co-founder Alex Blania to help financial firms tackle deepfake scams and AI impersonation. The launch marks the company’s first sector-tailored product release, specifically aimed at banks, wealth managers, and financial services where digital deals come with high-stakes risks.

The updated financial suite combines three core tools: the World ID app, World ID for Agents, and World ID for Zoom. Alongside this release, the general availability of World ID for Zoom was announced, with technology firm and major contributor Tools for Humanity officially joining the Zoom ISV Exchange Program.

Through this partnership, enterprise clients can buy the World ID for Zoom integration straight from the Zoom App Marketplace. Custom hardware verification devices, known as Orbs, can also be requested by companies to set up in their corporate offices.

This upgraded product suite arrives right as financial institutions grapple with rising threats from synthetic media and AI-generated identities. According to a Deloitte report, US fraud losses tied to AI could be pushed from $12.3 billion in 2023 to an alarming $40 billion by 2027.

“As AI becomes increasingly prevalent in all aspects of our lives, enterprises are requesting individuals provide ‘Proofs’ about themselves to help mitigate fraud and increase trust,” said Sandro Herbig, president at Tools for Humanity. “World ID for banking and finance offers a suite of tools to add an AI-safe trust layer across their internal and external systems.”

Multi-Layer Identity Verification for Enhanced Security

The combined suite is built to safeguard customer accounts, internal staff workflows, and automated processes. Users can claim, manage, and present verified credentials through the World ID app—which acts as a digital identity wallet—while live video meeting participants can be verified by World ID for Zoom via Zoom’s Realtime Media Streams.

The tool runs a live three-way match comparing an Orb-verified baseline photo, a smartphone selfie, and the active video feed. Once the check succeeds, a “Human Badge” is displayed on the user’s video screen.

World ID for Agents lets people hand off verified credentials to AI agents, allowing those bots to prove those checks to outside platforms.

“Proof of Human is no longer a nice-to-have,” said Ajay Patel, head of World ID and chief revenue officer at Tools for Humanity. “It is becoming an essential layer of trust infrastructure as AI reshapes how people communicate and interact online.”

To test this tech across different banking and financial workflows, World is teaming up with several sector partners, including Bain Capital, Vaneck Funds, Openexchange, and Outtake. Running on Amazon Web Services (AWS), the World ID for Zoom integration was previously previewed during a limited beta run with Vaneck Funds.

Over 18 million individuals currently hold a World Proof of Human credential, according to the firm. The technology is set to be showcased by World at upcoming enterprise conferences, including Zoomtopia and Cloudflare Connect.
