Tesla’s Cloud Hit By Crypto Mining Malware Attack

According to Tesla, the electric vehicle manufacturing company, they have become a fallen victim of cryptocurrency mining due to crypto mining malware attack.

Cybersecurity firm named RedLock stated on Tuesday that hackers have intruded in the system and has exploited an unprotected Kubernetes console, which the company uses to access and handle siphon computer processing attribute from cloud environment to perform cryptocurrency mining. The team state they have discovered as well as reported this weakness to the company several months before.

Tesla Confirms No Customer Data Affected in Security Breach

The spokesperson of the company told Gizmodo that customer information is highly secure and it is not affected by this incident. He further adds that the company has maintained the bug bounty program to encourage the security moreover answer the security threat within hours of recognizing it.

The spokesperson further explains that although the impact seems limited to only internally used engineering test cars in our initial investigation, we found no indication of the vehicle safety, security or customer privacy compromised at any single edge.

RedLock CTO Mr. Gaurav Kumar stated that public cloud environments remain highly vulnerable to mining hacks, which could explain the sudden surge in cryptocurrency value cycles.
