Italian town to reveal community-funded Satoshi Nakamoto statue

Date:

The municipality announced that the Satoshi monument, scheduled for unveiling on May 1, was created by a local artist and funded by the Fornelli local government.

The Italian municipality of Fornelli in the Molise region of Italy will be dedicating a monument to pseudonymous Bitcoin

In an April 23 Facebook post, the Fornelli municipality announced plans to unveil the Satoshi monument on May 1. Artist Mattia Pannoni created the artwork, and the local government funded it, though they did not disclose specific details.

“As an administration, it’s essential to embrace the new ideas brought forward by our young people,” said Fornelli Mayor Giovanni Tedeschi.

The Fornelli local government claims it has the “highest density of Bitcoin adoption in the world” among its approximately 1,800 residents.Other regions have similarly embraced cryptocurrencies to attract visitors, such as Bitcoin Beach in El Salvador and the Swiss city of Zug, where residents pay for many local goods and services with crypto.

Since the release of the Bitcoin white paper in 2008, the true identity of Satoshi—whether a single person or a group—remains one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in the crypto world.

Numerous artists, including those within the crypto community and beyond, have created artwork portraying the elusive Satoshi Nakamoto through statues and digital art. These representations often feature Satoshi without distinct facial features, commonly depicted wearing a hoodie or seated at a computer.

The announcement stated that they will reveal the monument on May 1 in Fornelli’s Piazza Umberto I.
