Trueo’s Ethereum Strategy Receives Praise From Vitalik Buterin

Date:

Trueo has revealed plans to shift its prediction market protocol from Base to Ethereum mainnet and urged users to avoid creating new Base markets that expire after January 31, 2027.

Trueo said in its migration announcement that the Base application will remain available as the Ethereum deployment is prepared. Trading, market resolution and redemptions will continue, while users can access existing markets until their expiry dates. The project also said TYD used as collateral will continue earning yield throughout the transition.

Launched on Base in March 2025, the protocol operates binary YES-or-NO prediction markets entirely onchain. According to Trueo’s documentation, trading remains non-custodial, with transactions executed directly onchain through a custom Uniswap v4 hook. Under the current deployment, TYD serves as the payment asset for active market positions and oracle bonds.

Trueo Keeps Base Markets Running During Ethereum Transition

For existing users, the migration will not immediately close the Base version. Trueo said users can still create markets expiring in 2026, while existing markets will continue under their current settlement system. According to the project, new market proposals with expiry dates beyond January 31, 2027 should wait for the Ethereum deployment.

TRUE, the protocol’s governance and oracle token, will shift to Ethereum through an open-ended migration process. Trueo has not set a deadline for token holders to complete the move. The project said future staking and liquidity incentives will run on Ethereum once the new deployment goes live.

Current public data indicates that the migration remains incomplete. Trueo’s official deployment documentation continues to list its TruthMarketManager, OracleCouncil, OracleBonds, OrderManager and market master contracts on Base mainnet. The page currently shows no deployment addresses for Ethereum mainnet.

DefiLlama’s Sept. 22 snapshot shows that all $796,126.31 in tracked Trueo TVL is currently held on Base. The data also reports $9,727.92 in DEX volume over the previous 30 days, with Base accounting for 100% of the protocol’s tracked TVL.

Ethereum Liquidity and Integrations Drove Trueo’s Decision

Explaining the move, Trueo pointed to Ethereum’s network effects, available liquidity, integration opportunities and long-term infrastructure. The team said lower execution costs have made Ethereum mainnet more practical for its product, while its roadmap provides what Trueo described as a neutral and predictable foundation for future development.

Trueo described Base as useful during the protocol’s early experimental phase rather than criticizing the Coinbase-linked Layer 2. The team said Ethereum better aligns with its vision for a widely integrated, permissionless and highly immutable prediction market, while liquidity expansion and lower trust requirements remain key priorities for the next deployment.

Ethereum’s established DeFi ecosystem also featured in the project’s stated reasoning. Trueo said direct access to Ethereum-based applications and liquidity could open additional integration opportunities. The team also described the Ethereum L1 prediction-market sector as less crowded than several competing blockchain ecosystems, presenting that view as part of its broader case for the migration.

Vitalik Buterin Praises Trueo’s Prediction Market Model

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin publicly responded on Sept. 21, welcoming Trueo as a new prediction-market entrant on Ethereum L1. Buterin praised the project’s stated emphasis on decentralization and ethical design, describing it as “not corposlop” and arguing that prediction markets could be used for “interesting and meaningful things.”

His comments come after months of public criticism directed at some prediction-market products.A reported in February that Buterin had warned the sector was becoming increasingly centered on short-term cryptocurrency price bets and sports wagering. He called the trend an “unhealthy product market fit” while pointing to hedging and real-world risk management as potential alternative applications.

In related coverage, Buterin suggested that prediction-market mechanisms could become one layer of future onchain governance, alongside a separate preference-setting system designed to limit capture. His latest remarks on Trueo did not indicate any Ethereum Foundation partnership, grant, investment, or other formal agreement with the project.

Trueo Plans New Oracle System on Ethereum

Trueo said development of its Ethereum deployment will include a next-generation oracle system designed to handle disputed prediction-market outcomes. The migration announcement provided no launch date or Ethereum contract addresses, leaving the Base contracts as the only deployments currently listed in Trueo’s public documentation.

The protocol currently relies on an optimistic resolution mechanism. Trueo’s resolution documentation states that any participant can propose an outcome once a market satisfies its resolution conditions, triggering a 12-hour challenge period. If no valid dispute is submitted, the proposed outcome becomes final when the challenge window closes.

When a participant disputes an outcome, Trueo’s current resolution process can pass through multiple stages. The Oracle Council manages the initial arbitration phase, while further challenges can escalate the case to TRUE holders if the required conditions are met. At the final stage, the protocol randomly selects 11 attesters to decide the market outcome and determine the applicable slashing conditions.

Market definitions are recorded onchain when users create new markets. According to Trueo’s documentation, the protocol stores the market question, approved resolution sources and supporting resolution details as immutable strings. The project says this structure prevents the written terms of a market from being altered after deployment.

Its published integrity standards ban markets that could directly incentivize targeted violence, terrorism, self-harm or other harmful behavior. Under the protocol’s stated rules, markets without clear and publicly verifiable resolution criteria must also be canceled.

Trueo has not set a date for launching its Ethereum deployment or finishing the TRUE token migration. During the transition, the project says trading, resolution and redemptions on Base will continue, while future staking and liquidity reward programs will run on Ethereum once the mainnet deployment goes live.
